I can give you a list of the reasons why but unfortunately many of them are bogus.
They are excuses. An excuse is what a person uses to hide behind to cover up the real reason for not doing something.
I do believe it’s an inherent quality many of us learn very early in life. As a child grows up using trial and error, you may have heard, “Why do I need to take the training wheels off? The bike works find with them on.”
Sooner rather than later, the training wheels do come off, as the child was harassed by another child or the child decided it’s time to move on. Whatever the reason, it was time to take on a new challenge.
Every once in a while, an advertisement works so well that people start talking about it, even remembering the name of the product. For example, take the AT&T commercial. In a school setting, with four little children sitting around a small table, the grown up asks a question to the group, who answer the question in the only way a cute little child can.
The advertisement works because it is still running using different questions and children. And I’m willing to bet most people remember that the advertiser is AT&T. That’s the way an advertisement should work but unfortunately it’s a rare occurrence.
It’s time to remove the Trial and Error
It takes a lot of trial and error to achieve success the way AT&T has. Fortunately for AT&T they are a huge company with a rather large marketing budget. This is not true for a small business.
Small business companies do not like trial and error in their marketing but they are forced to do it. Which I believe is the biggest reason their company growth is not nearly what it should be. It’s time to take off the training wheels and end the excuses.
