About the Doc

Filed under :

My name is Mike Deuerling, aka, the MarketingDoc. I received my moniker from a doctor who I was assisting with the marketing of his practice. In addition to health care, I have assisted associations, technology companies, and B2B companies in the small business market.

I have over 34 years of experience in sales and marketing. I started my first business in 1984 to get out of the corporate rat race of airports and motels.

  • There are many ways to develop a marketing program for a small business. I’ve seen the good, the bad, but most of all, the “hope it works marketing plan.” Small businesses waste more of their hard earned cash on marketing that doesn’t work.
  • Marketing is very subjective and more complicated than it truly needs to be for a small business. My definition of marketing is very simple… “It’s everything a small business can do to grow its business.” In order for a small business to do that, they need to be customer-centric. That is simply defined as understanding your audience – everything else marketing comes after that.

How may I help you? I follow three distinctive steps that have evolved over the past 25 years to meet a company’s present marketing needs.

1). A smart Start for Smart Business. This is a personalized marketing analysis for companies who are determined to reach and go beyond their growth potential. All companies are different so each company needs their own marketing map based on the company brand, positioning and personality of the company employees.

2). A Customer-Centric marketing strategy. A customer has more control of the buying process than ever before. The customer can be your advocate and tell all their friends. Align your marketing with the needs of your customer. Give your customers more than they expect.

3). A Customer-Contact Management program. As you gather all your customer and prospect data, you need a place to keep it. Every customer and prospect does not see and hear the same. All are truly different.

I created this blog to share my information based on my own observations and personal experience.

  • I started my career using content marketing to grow my customer base in 1976. I not only provided solutions for my customers, but created inspection procedures to make sure their equipment was performing as it should. White papers detailing the inspection procedures and repairs were shared with the industry.
  • Sharing what I know, help others to perform better in their business. It’s part of my nature and a goal as a marketing professional for the small business.

Please enjoy my posts, past, present and future. Please feel free to comment, ask questions, and give me ideas for future posts.
